You should get into the habit of cleaning your golf cart batteries twice a year. Always wear protective gloves, goggles and clothing when handling batteries and acid. With that said, you will need the following tools items on hand when cleaning your batteries.
  1. Post cleaner (or wire brush)
  2. Baking Soda
  3. Bucket of water
  4. Grease or Petroleum Jelly
Examine each battery. Look for cracks, leaks or dirt and replace any battery if necessary. Check to make sure that the vent caps are sealed tightly, and then clean the battery with a mixture of baking soda and water. This neutralizes any acid that is on the outside of the battery.

While doing this, make sure any of the solution does not get inside the battery at any point. Once you have cleaned the batteries completely, wash them off with water and dry with a towel. Use the post cleaner to clean off the battery connections before you put them back into the golf cart. Coat the connectors and posts with a thin layer of grease or petroleum jelly.
